Elements 4 Nature (E4N) staff traveled to the Tuskegee University Homecoming 2008 for the purpose of promoting their newly formed company.  Jon Adkins and Yasir Khalid, former students of Tuskegee University, formed the company in June 2008.  E4N staff was one of the vendors participating in the two-day event during Tuskegee Homecoming.  There were a number of vendors who sold various items like women’s bags, incense, music CDs, and Tuskegee tee-shirts.  What was unique about the E4N booth which separated them from other vendors was that they sold the original Dr. George Washington Carver & Dr. A.W. Curtis products.  They also sold the Original Dr. George Washington Carver "Dirt Shirt".   Currently, E4N distributes the popular Dr. Carver & Dr. A.W. Curtis Rubbing Oil and the Sage & Sulphur Hair Conditioner.  "A lot of people don't realize that Dr. Carver/Dr. Curtis products exist in the marketplace and what's more significant is all of their products work really well.  If you have any thinning hair then you need to buy the Sage & Sulphur Hair Conditioner and if you have any aches and pains, you have to purchase the Dr. Carver Rubbing Oil," said Jon Adkins, the founder of E4N.  Not only did E4N sell the Dr. Carver & Dr. Curtis products at the Tuskegee Homecoming event, but they also were the only ones selling the Original Carver "Dirt Shirt".

The "Dirt Shirt" sold for a little more than all the other Tuskegee tee-shirts.  Yasir Khaild, co-founder of E4N had an explanation for most of the customers who questioned the pricing difference from all the other Tuskegee tee-shirts sold during the event.  “This is not an ordinary shirt that was screen printed or dyed with toxic colors.  This "Dirt Shirt" that we sell was dyed from clay that was extracted from the native soil of Tuskegee.  The process is very similar to the process that Dr. George Washington Carver used to extract clays from the same Tuskegee soil.  Dr. Carver then would convert the clays into paints that were used to paint houses etc.  Many people asked the question, Will the dye wash out?  We assured them from personal experience that the shirt would not fade, even after washing. This to me is another testimony to the ingenuity of the Tuskegee WizardDr. Carver was a revolutionary scientist far ahead of his time. Many people have glossed over his value; however, we must keep his legacy alive. We can see other people keeping their leaders and heroes alive.  If you look at a five dollar bill, you'll see Lincoln, a ten dollar bill, you'll see Hamilton and a twenty dollar bill, you'll see Jackson.  I think you get the picture.  If we can keep these legacies alive, why can't we invest in the "Dirt Shirt", and look at Dr. Carver and help keep his legacy alive?" asked Yasir Khalid, a Carver researcher.

The two-day event kicked off on Friday morning on the "Avenue" in front of Tompkins Hall.  The first day of the event the rain came late in the afternoon and washed away most of the excitement and enthusiasm that built up earlier in the day.  However, the weather Saturday was perfect for exhibitors and the game crowd.  The estimated number of people attending the homecoming game was in excess of thirty thousand. The Tuskegee Golden Tigers football team defeated Lane College 55-21 to remain undefeated for the year.  The football team also won their 26th consecutive victory and matched the longest winning streak in school history.  If you like the NFL, keep your eye on Tuskegee's senior quarterback Jacary Atkinson.  Jacary was named Offensive Player of the Year and SIAC Player of the Year for two consecutive seasons.  He's expected to be drafted in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft.  Yes, he's that good!  The overall team is strong with a number of players selected for the SIAC All-Conference Team.  There should be several Tuskegee players drafted in the 2009 NFL Draft.

At the 2008 Tuskegee Homecoming, E4N was focused on making everyone aware of its mission which is to help revive the legacy of the master scientist, Dr. George Washington Carver by selling his original products.  E4N signed an exclusive deal with Natural Health Options in January 2008 to produce and market several of Dr. Carver & Dr. A.W. Curtis original products.  In the near future, E4N plans on re-introducing more of Dr. Carver & Dr. Curtis products into the marketplace.

It was nice to be present and representing my new company, Elements 4 Nature, at Tuskegee University's 2008 Homecoming.  It's been a long time since I attended a Tuskegee Homecoming.  Way too long!  The last time I stepped foot on Tuskegee University's campus was 1990, almost 20 years ago.  It was great to be back at my beloved school.  Between raising kids and work demands, it was difficult for me to coordinate everything to attend a Tuskegee Homecoming.  It was nice to be back and talk to a few familiar faces, and it was especially gratifying coming back representing  Elements 4 Nature (E4N).  The new company was started by Yasir Khalid and myself in June 2008.  We worked the two-day event at Tuskegee's Homecoming.  The purpose of the trip was not simply to have fun but to continue working towards making everyone aware of the mission of E4N.   The E4N mission is to help revive the legacy of Dr. George Washington Carver and Dr. A.W. Curtis by selling his original products.  It was exciting to re-introduce and sell the famous Dr. Carver Rubbing Oil and Dr. Carver & Dr. Curtis Sage and Sulphur Hair Conditioner to the Tuskegee crowd.  It was surprising to me that most people did not know that Dr. Carver/Dr. Curtis products (containing his original formulas) were available in the marketplace.  However, the highlight of my trip was visiting the George Washington Carver Museum again and the newly opened Tuskegee Air Museum

Strolling through the Carver Museum again was enlightening.  You always learn something new about the master scientist Dr. George Washington Carver.  Not only was Dr. Carver an African-American hero for his people; his innovations made a significant contribution or impact to the American society as a whole.  Not only was he the first to mix peanuts with chocolate, what lead to the most popular chocolate bar to date, the Mr Goodbar, but he also invented instant coffee made from the sweet potato.  Millions of Americans drink instant coffee every morning.  His inventions currently have made more impact on American society than any one scientist to date.  We all should be proud of this man and his accomplishments.

The newly built Tuskegee Air Museum is almost completed.  They are still working hard to finish the museum.  However, the first hangar is about 95% complete.  I was able to walkthrough the nearly completed hanger and take pictures.  The museum had aircraft that were used by the Tuskegee Airmen.  The museum also had original pictures of some of the Tuskegee Airmen.  I was especially proud to see my uncle's name, Dr. Rutherford H. Adkins, in the museum as one of the Tuskegee Airmen.  His classification was P44I as it was recorded in the Tuskegee Air Museum records book.  The "P" stood for a pilot in the 44th division which meant he was trained in 1944.  My father, Robert H. Adkins, told me that Uncle Lubby, as we called him, was a Tuskegee Airmen when I attended Tuskegee.  I had no way of seeing it for myself while attending Tuskegee.  Now that the Tuskegee Air Museum exists today, his name is there for all to see, especially my family members.  Thanks for all who were responsible for making the Tuskegee Air Museum a reality.   My father and Uncle Lubby were great men whose accomplishments I will always be proud of.
