spirit of the Legacy of Dr. George Washington Carver as we journey through his "mission field" on the "Sacred
Grounds" of Tuskegee University. In this documentary, we will share with you some of Dr. Carver's works, discoveries,
relics, his goals and objectives. His tenure at Tuskegee lasted from 1896-1943.

The original
Tuskegee Dirt Shirt is
a tribute commemorating the legacy of Dr. George Washington Carver. Dr. Carver spent the majority of his life working
as a botanist and a chemist at Tuskegee Institute (Tuskegee University). Dr. Carver dedicated most of his life trying
to reach the "farthest man down" (The Blackman). The clay that is used to color the Tuskegee Dirt Shirtcame
from the same origins as the clay that Dr. Carver used to make paint for homes in and around Tuskegee. During
World War I, he found a way to replace the textile dyes formaly imported from Europe. He produced dyes of 500 different
shades. All of his findings in terms of dyes came from Tuskegee soil, and the same rich soil remains intact
today. This soil is used in the processing of the original Tuskegee Dirt Shirt.
